Friday Feature - Answering Salary Questions
Public employee salaries are a hot topic in newspapers these days. Reporters are asking very specific questions and expecting quick results. Escape Online recently introduced a report that will help districts answer these questions with the flexibility required to give prompt and accurate results.
The new Extract of Earnings and Contributions (Pay50) is a comprehensive extract report for providing detailed salary earnings and contributions for employees. It includes base pay or posted salary, taxable benefits and additional pay. It also has custom columns for addons. Let's check it out.
First let's look at the user options. This gives you a lot of flexibility to select just the right list of employees. I have entered criteria for last fiscal year, active employees in classified positions that are management, supervisory, and/or exempt. Conversely, I could have run the report for a single employee or selection of employees.
Now let’s look at the options for the type of pay we are going to report. I can select between base pay (posted salary + addons that add to base pay– not including those defined in Columns 1 & 2 of the Addon Column Definitions) and posted salary (no addons). I am going to report their base pay, include their taxable benefits, and use only one column for any additional pay (addons that are specified in the Addon Columns Definitions section).
Finally, the Addon Columns Definitions and Contribution Columns Definitions sections of the report allow me to select and group addons and contributions, defining my own custom headings. The final output is automatically generated for Microsoft Excel.
The report uses straightforward calculations that are easy to follow. It also includes a separate option that prints ALL of the detail that went into the calculations in case there are any follow up questions.
This new report and the ability to import into the Report Warehouse are great tools to provide timely information and keep copies for future queries!
