Employee Spotlight: Chad Guest
Chad Guest is one of the owners of Escape Technology. Yet, in our friendly culture, he is also just one of the guys. Chad joined Bob Towery back in the late 80s to help build the software and company that we have today. Chad is responsible for programming, research and design for the Escape Online 5 HR/Payroll team and database development. Like Bob, he also worked at System Integrators prior to Escape. Chad is one of those rare programmers who is not only a "great coder," but can hold pleasant and productive conversations with users of any expertise.
What is your favorite part of working for Escape? — Working with the people. I like all of the interaction with everyone here and all of our customers. I also really enjoy the work and solving problems for our customers.
Can you give us a quick play-by-play of your average work day? — Well, my day usually starts off with a list of things I want to get done that day. I start on the first one and then the rest of the day is trying to get back to that list. Then in the evening, I finally get back to the list and that is my typical "day."
What have been some of the highlights of your career at Escape? — It's hard to pinpoint exact events, but for 30 some odd years now, the highlights are always the people you meet: a customer, a peer, a boss. The excitement comes from the things you can accomplish together, making a difference in your industry.
What are your favorite activities or things to do when not working? — Almost anything with a ball: golf and tennis mostly. Also, I love to kick back and do nothing at all. That is one of my favorite things. But I also like to travel. Yes, I like traveling and skiing too!
Where are you from originally? — I was born in Dallas, Texas.
If you weren’t a VP of Research and Development, what would you be? — It would have to be a Golf Pro. In my mind, that is always the right answer because the worst day on the golf course is better than the best day in the office (ha ha). It sounds so good, but this sport is hard on your body. So I don't know. Plus, I am not implying that I am good enough to be a Golf Pro. :)
What is your favorite food? — Mexican food. Period. There are too many options to choose a single dish.
What is your ringtone? — My ringtone is The Ocean from Led Zeppelin.
If you could meet one person, who and why? — This question goes right with the last one. I would say Jimmy Page because I have already met Robert Plant. I have to say that even to this day their music has an influence on me. It makes me feel young, I guess. In my mind, music gets you through all the different times of your life (lyrical reference intended). Music is something that relaxes you. You get your own reaction. If I could meet Jimmy Page, I would thank him, just like I thanked Robert Plant when I met him.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be? — This is hard. If somehow I could be awake and focused “all the time,” I could be “Super Awake Man.”
