Jacque joined Escape as frontline Finance support in the fall of 2009. Jacque came to Escape with almost four years experience in the business department of a school district and had recently completed the USC School Business Management Certificate Program. What is your favorite part of working for Escape? — I love that silliness (like dressing up for Halloween) is okay sometimes. There is always laughter in the office. I also appreciate the way everyone here comes together to support each other both personally and professionally. It’s an amazing workplace.
Can you give us a quick play-by-play of your average work day? — It often starts with an iced non-fat pumpkin spice latte from Starbucks (my biggest guilty pleasure). Then I get to the office and start by checking email. Some of my customers work all hours so I’m not surprised when I find something waiting for me first thing in the morning. I’m mostly at my desk working on customer incidents or creating/reviewing change requests, unless it’s a meeting day.
What have been some of the highlights of your career? — My biggest highlight was completing the USC School Business Management program as part of the very first cohort! I met amazing people and learned so much that helped me when working at a district as well as here at Escape. One of my highlights here at Escape was finding out that my blog post about the Local Control Funding Formula had over 80 reads.
What are your favorite activities or things to do when not working? — I love to dance and read. I volunteer for a coffee shop that raises money for the fight against sex trafficking. I’m also a big fan of variety shows and attend those when I can.
Where are you from originally? — I grew up in Arizona. Almost all of my family still lives there – the only family I have in California are my children.
If you weren't a Customer Care Representative, what would you be? — If I weren’t a customer care representative, I’d run after school programs for middle school youth. I worked in that capacity for several years and it’s something close to my heart. Middle school is such a vulnerable age where our children are too old for daycare but too young for much else! I’d love to be able to provide a safe, fun, enriching environment for them.
What is your favorite food? — Chile relleno burritos covered in sauce, cheese, guacamole and sour cream are my favorite. Followed by gyros. And pretty much anything that involves cheese.
What is your ringtone? — My phone is usually on silent. I’m sensitive to noises, so most ringtones irritate me. But I did recently install one that’s a little birdie saying “Tweet tweet, tweet tweet.” It makes me laugh on the rare occasions my phone isn’t on silent.
If you could meet one person, who and why? — I can’t say there’s really one person I’d like to meet. I should come up with something that makes me sound noble or intellectual, but really I’d just like to meet some of the friends I’ve made online over the years. Many of them have been there for me in really rough times and I’d love the chance to meet them in person finally!
If you could have any superpower, what would it be? — Definitely the power to teleport. I don’t want to time travel or anything like that, I just really don’t like driving. I’d love to be able to wiggle my nose and instantly be at my destination. Since that’s not likely to happen, maybe I can work on hiring a driver! :)
