Designing the Way Forward
The last session I wanted to talk about was presented by Malini Bakshi Leveque, UX Architect at Hewlett Packard Converged Systems. Malini’s point in this session was to make sure that you understand the customer and how they use the product.
Many of the suggestions discussed in this session related to being onsite with your customer and actually observing them use the product. This is so effective because if you ask a customer about a process they will describe it to you, but if you actually observe them in their environment performing that task, you will probably pick up on many more small but important details that could actually make a big difference in the solution that you design.
This happened recently with Chad. He was onsite at Ventura County Office of Education and watched timecard information being entered, which gave him some specific ideas on functionality for our Employee Online Portal.
It was a crazy-busy two days but it was a great opportunity to get ideas from other companies in our industry. I love working for a company that is willing to invest in our people and processes like this.
