Escapees Join the 50-Pack (Backpack) Challenge

A trunk filled with backpacks from Operation Backpack 2013.

In 2013, Escapees came together to donate 20 backpacks to Volunteer of America’s Operation Backpack®. This year we’re stepping up our game by signing up for the 50-Pack Challenge. We have until July 24 to fill 50 backpacks!

Operation Backpack® provides hundreds of backpacks to poverty-stricken or homeless children throughout the Greater Sacramento Area, Bay Area and Reno, NV.

Escapees can choose from grade level-based supply lists to follow when filling backpacks or sign up to donate specific items. Not everyone enjoys shopping, so employees also have the option of donating money and I do a shopping trip to pull together all the supplies.

Wondering how you can help local youth go back to school with big smiles and new supplies? Here are a few suggestions:

  1. If you’re in the Greater Sacramento Area and would like to help us meet our 50-pack goal by donating a filled backpack or supplies to our drive, email me at for more information.
  2. Google “Operation Backpack [insert your city name]” or a variation on that and see what’s going on in your community!

I’d love to hear what you find and how you decide to participate.
