On September 18, the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), CASBO Sacramento Section, and School Services of California presented a “Lunch and Learn” workshop titled “What You Need to Know About SB 854”. I was eager to attend in order to gain a better understanding of the reporting requirements and how Escape Online 5 can make things easier for you. I left with a few ideas that you’ll all hear about in the upcoming month.

What is SB 854? This is a public works reform bill that made changes to how the Department of Industrial Relations monitors compliance with prevailing wages. These changes modify your responsibilities as awarding bodies of public works projects. You can review the fact sheet at http://www.dir.ca.gov/public-works/SB854.html.

During a break, I had a chance to talk with Lois Standring from Windsor Unified School District about Escape’s upcoming user conference. It was great to hear she’s excited about attending, and I gave her just a little information about what I’ll be presenting in regards to SB 854: new fields in the upcoming release and some tips for how to track public works projects. I don’t want to ruin the surprise for those of you attending the conference, so be sure to come into Finance Lightning Rounds to get the details!

Of course I couldn’t resist a photo opportunity, and Jacque Alejos, also of Windsor (she’s a Jacquelyn by the way, I’m just a Jacque) and Lois graciously posed with me.
