I love working with customers!
I love working with customers – via email, phone, online meetings... you name it! However, my favorite way of communicating is and has always been in-person. I’m fascinated by how smart our users are, how well they know school business and how much they care about the quality of their work, but above all, how eager they are to learn.
Recently, I had the pleasure of spending a couple of hours with a payroll and retirement user from Butte COE. Christine Kingery drove all the way to Roseville to spend some time learning about STRS and PERS processes in Escape Online. Butte COE went live on our software in January of this year (just 2 months ago). Christine is not only learning new software, but she is new to retirement reporting, too. We spent the first hour reviewing retirement setup, going over contribution and deduction records, and generating STRS and PERS files. We also spent time reviewing entries in the software and talking about various retirement adjustments. Aside from discussing Butte COE's processes, her suggestions and pain points, we found that we had a lot in common. We both came to school accounting from the private sector (yes, we both had a bit of a shock at the vast rules and regulations), and we both have teenagers. Life is always more interesting with teenagers under your roof.
I loved how our meeting went. It was very informative for both of us. I invited our new software support analysts, Diana Davis and Stephanie Guest, to participate in the discussion so they could learn about school retirement reporting. Our offices are always very casual and everyone is friendly and welcoming. As we exchanged well-wishes and hugs (yes hugs, she is now part of the Escape family), I realized that the bond I formed with Christine is the reason why I love my job.
