STRS and Placer COE in the House

Last month we had the pleasure of hosting STRS and Placer COE in our offices. Bill Frerichs, Employer Readiness Analyst with CalSTRS, demonstrated the New Secure Employer Website (SEW). We watched Bill upload contribution and employment files, then submit them.  He reviewed contribution detail records and how they could be edited or deleted after the upload process.

We reviewed how the reported lines are validated for warnings or errors, and how they can be corrected to ensure accurate reporting. In the new SEW, there is no limit to the number of files that employers can submit for a specific reporting period, so we discussed the matching logic that the software will use to determine if there are duplicate records in case of multiple file uploads.

I’d like to thank Bill for a very informative demo and Q&A session.  Bill’s expertise and knowledge of business rules have been invaluable to us at Escape Technology.

I’d also like to thank Placer COE, for their cooperation in providing testing data to be used in the demo, and for asking great questions and providing input related to their internal file upload processes.

Here is a quick timeline of our progress with the STRS Employer Readiness project:

  • We have analyzed the specifications for the new file format (NFF) (Contribution and Employment files).

  • We have identified potential fields that will need to be added to the Escape Online 5 user interface to accommodate NFF Contribution reporting.

  • We have developed a script to generate a Contribution File in the NFF using customer live data.

  • We have developed a new Retire13 report (similar to the existing STRS period report) that will report STRS detail using the new layout/coding.

We are eager to start teaming up with customers and CalSTRS to start testing NFF contribution files once the new STRS environment is open for testing this fall.  I have received numerous emails from customers volunteering their time and resources to assist with testing. With an awesome team of Escapees working on this project, customers who are happy to lend a helping hand, and STRS willing to take the time to drive up to Roseville to meet with us, I think we are well on our way to success!
